About Us
Funding Partners
Silvus Technologies has been funded through the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Robotics Technology Consortium / Joint Ground Robotics Enterprise (RTC / JGRE), National Science Foundation (NSF), Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) and various Department of the Navy, Army and Air Force's Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Programs. SBIR's provides funding for the development of innovative advances in technology developed by small firms that have the courage, the drive, and flexibility to assume risks - the "best of the best." The primary objective of the NSF SBIR Programs is to increase the incentive and opportunity for small firms to undertake cutting-edge, high risk, high quality scientific engineering that will have a high potential economic payoff if the research is successful.
Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)
DARPA is the research and development office for the U.S. Department of Defense. DARPA's mission is to maintain technological superiority of the U.S. military and prevent technological surprise from harming our national security and to also create technological surprises for our adversaries.
DARPA funds unique and innovative research through the private sector, academic and other non-profit organizations as well as government labs.
DARPA research runs the gamut from conducting scientific investigations in a laboratory, to building full-scale prototypes of military systems. We fund research in biology, medicine, computer science, chemistry, physics, engineering, mathematics, material sciences, social sciences, neuroscience, and more.

Robotics Technology Consortium / Joint Ground Robotics Enterprise

The Robotics Technology Consortium is a non-profit industry organization formed in 2008 to speed the creation and deployment of ground robotics technology for the Defense Department and other government organizations. The RTC currently has a membership of nearly 200 large and small commercial companies, academic institutions, and non-profit organizations. The consortium develops solutions to meet critical needs identified by the Office of the Secretary of Defense Joint Ground Robotics Enterprise (OSD/JGRE) to support national security objectives.
Robotics is a national competitiveness issue. From military applications to commercial robotics, it is imperative that the United States remain at the forefront of robotics innovation and manufacturing.
In 2008, the RTC won a seven-year, $170M OTA Award from the Department of Defense. Research under this OTA is performed by RTC Members selected by the government through a competitive bid process. New projects are expected to be funded every year.

National Science Foundation
The National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent federal agency created by Congress in 1950 "to promote the progress of science; to advance the national health, prosperity, and welfare; to secure the national defense..." With an annual budget of about $6.06 billion, we are the funding source for approximately 20 percent of all federally supported basic research conducted by America's colleges and universities. In many fields such as mathematics, computer science and the social sciences, NSF is the major source of federal backing.

Office of Naval Research (ONR)
The ONR SBIR program is an integral part of the Naval Science and Technology program. ONR SBIR topics address naval needs and should ultimately transition to the fleet through enabling technologies for future naval capabilities or directly to naval acquisition programs. Topics are derived from ONR Program Officers via periodic calls which are issued by the ONR SBIR Program Manager to the ONR Department Heads. ONR SBIR topics are published and solicited with those of other Naval components in the Department of Defense SBIR Program Solicitations. Qualified small businesses may submit proposals for these topics which are then competitively evaluated by ONR Program Officers. Awards are made to the best proposing companies within allotted funding.
