Silvus Announces Release of MIMO Empowered Morphable Radio For Defense Applications
LOS ANGELES, Calif., August 12, 2008 — Silvus Technologies Inc. a leading wireless design services provider and commercial supplier of Intellectual Property (IP) cores for complex wireless applications, is proud to announce the release of its SC2000 MIMO empowered mode rich (morphable) radio. With the release of the radio, Silvus has demonstrated its ability to incorporate its industry leading knowledge of 4x4 MIMO versatility into wireless communications that require high throughput rates (150 Mpbs+) in harsh propagation environments. High-speed communications in topographically challenging environments, such as urban canyons, is now a reality.
Operational in 5, 10 and 20 MHz bandwidths, the SC2000 is a unique radio module comprised of four (4 RF transceivers, a complete packet-based baseband processing engine and a robust and intuitive API. The radio unit can be commanded directly by the networking protocol which can dictate radio parameters on a per-packet basis. With 300+ operating modes to choose from, the SC2000 platform is the only radio solution available that puts per packet reconfigurability in the hands of the user.
Using MIMO technology, the radio can increase throughput by up to 4 times using the same transmit (TX) power and provide a 22 dB gain in Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) relative to SISO (Single Input Single Output) systems at 1% PER (Packet Error Rate). Highlights include: interference suppression, spatial diversity, anti-jamming, frequency agility, and bandwidth agility.
The Silvus SC2000 radio began in 2005 with SBIR funding from the Office of Naval Research (ONR) to develop a prototype MIMO empowered radio. After the successful development of the first radio, the SE100, Silvus' cutting edge advancements in applying MIMO technology have made it become the sole performer on DARPA's Mobile Networked MIMO (MNM) program. This new funding will allow Silvus to further advance the technology and strive towards commercialization.
"Applications of Silvus' MIMO technology in commercial and military applications include: NLOS (Non Line of Site) communications in complex propagation environments typical of urban canyons," states Dr. Babak Daneshrad, CEO and founder of Silvus. He adds that, "first responder crews to disaster areas such as earthquakes and building collapses; robotic applications for hazmat, reconnaissance or EOD/IED disposal; robotic mesh networks; wireless networking below ship decks and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles are just a few applications where our radio can excel in providing high data rate communications in multi-path environments."
