Silvus' radios utilize the breakthrough of MIMO processing to provide new levels of connectivity in ad-hoc, mobile connectivity within the cluttered environment of cities. Urban clutter creates multiple signals from diverse reflections of the initial signal (multi-path), and the result is weak and/or fading voice/data communications. The MIMO processing utilized by Silvus radios is not only resistant to the degrading effects of multipath, it actually takes advantage of the multiple reflections of the signal to significantly improve performance, turning a problem into an advantage. One option to utilize the advantage of MIMO is to create multiple parallel channels in the same frequency band, thereby increasing spectral efficiency. The radios have been demonstrated to increase data rates by 10-20 times above current systems.

In a recent demonstration to the Trotwood, OH police department, the Silvus MIMO radio covered the same area as a Motorola MEA system which required 7 times as many relay nodes.

Silvus' MIMO radios are highly customizable transceivers which can be quickly adapted to mission needs. The user can select the bandwidth and center frequency. The radio then automatically selects from over 300 distinct modes of operation to achieve near optimal capacity utilization while quickly adapting to abrupt channel changes such as occur when units move around corners or enter buildings. A standard 10/100 ethernet port allows easy integration with a vast array of applications including VoIP, video and data.
